RMS Velocity   

Root Mean Square (RMS) velocity (V) is the square root of the average squared interval velocity given by the equation:

where Vi is the interval velocity of the ith interval and Dti is the two way travel time through the ith interval. In a multilayer horizontally stratified medium the RMS velocity approximates the NMO velocity.
