Domain Introduction

Seismic exploration is one of the primary functions performed to find the source of hydrocarbons buried beneath the surface of the earth. Data acquired by seismic surveys are the most commonly used geophysical information employed by the petroleum business. Seismic surveys utilize the seismic reflection method, which gives an accurate representation of the subsurface structure, by measuring the time it takes for a seismic wave generated at or near the surface to bounce off of rock interfaces and return to the surface. The reflections are recorded by a specialized instrument that detects ground movement, or changes in water pressure, depending on whether the survey is on land or water. The seismic survey must be processed after being acquired, then interpreted.

This seismic model supports the data management part of the seismic exploration activity from the definition of the surveys, acquisition of the seismic survey, processing of seismic data, and sale of multi-client data.
