Seismic Processing

Once the acquisition is completed, the geophysical processing company (WesternGeco) is contracted to do seismic processing of the SEGD data collected during the survey. The company then defines the grid with origin, inline, crossline interval, width, etc. to represent location for processed data for a 3D survey. For a 2D survey, the location information is represented by shotpoints with X,Y locations. Sometimes, there may be a gap in data for 2D survey. For this reason, a 2D line is denoted by segments of lines.

As a first step in processing, the SEGD data is preprocessed and navigation data is merged with SEGD data. Then there is further processing with a set of parameters and methods to produce processed seismic (SEGY) data to represent subsurface at defined grid locations. Later on, the company may produce different processed seismic data with different processing parameters and processing methods to create new datasets for the same locations.
