Abstract

Bent_Sub

A short cylindrical drilling tool installed in the drill stem to deflect the downhole motor off vertical to drill a directional hole. It is used directly above a positive displacement motor (PDM) or a turbine, and forces the bit to follow a certain arc of curvature as it drills.

X

Bit_Condition

X

Bypass_Sub

A pipe connection around a valve or other control mechanism that is installed to permit passage of fluid. (MMS)

X

Casing

Class describing the properties of a casing pipe

X

Casing_Accessory

A piece of equipment usually attached to the casing string to perform a specific purpose. Examples of this are Scratcher and Centralizer.

X

Core_Barrel

A core barrel is run at the bottom of a drill pipe to hold a recovered conventional core.

X

Core_Bit

A core bit is a piece of drilling equipment used to extract a conventional core from the earth.

X

Cutter_Pty

This class is for operating properties of cutters as used in drill bits, reamers and hole openers.

X

Drill_Bit

The tool used to crush or cut rock. Most bits used in rotary drilling are roller cone bits, but diamond bits are also used extensively.

X

Drill_Hole_Opener

A rotating finishing tool with cutting edges used to enlarge or shape or regulate a hole such as a hole opener or under reamer.

X

Drill_Measurement_Tool

Tool used for taking measurements downhole while drilling, e.g. MWD tool

X

Drill_Motor

A positive displacement motor used for drilling.

X

Drill_Pipe

Tubular conduit fitted with special threaded ends called tool joints. The drillpipe connects the rig surface equipment with the bottomhole assembly and the bit, both to pump drilling fluid to the bit and to be able to raise, lower and rotate the bottomhole assembly and bit

X

Drill_Stabilizer

A drill string component with bladed section which is of a larger diameter than its body or drill string component with a bladed section that can be attached to the body of another drill string component

X

External_Casing_Packer

A device used on the outside of the well casing to seal off formations or protect certain zones.

X

Generic_Tubular

Table describing the properties of tubular

X

Inflow_Control_Device

A device used to effectively balance well production throughout the entire operational life of the completion to optimize hydrocarbon recovery.

X

Jar

A mechanical device used downhole to deliver an impact load to another downhole component, especially when that component is stuck.

X

Motor_Pressure_Coef

The pressure curve that defines the pressure differential curve of a drill motor expressed as a series of coefficients.

X

Nozzle_Pty

This class is for operating properties of nozzles, ports, jets as used in drill bits, core bits, and other tools. Nozzle for a drill bit is a passageway that causes the drilling fluid to be ejected from the bit at high velocity. The jet of mud clears the bottom of the hole. Nozzles come in different sizes that can be interchanged on the bit to adjust the velocity with which the mud exits the bit. (MMS)

X

Production_Packer

A piece of downhole equipment, consisting of a sealing device, a holding or setting device, and an inside passage for fluids, used to block the flow of fluids through the annular space between the tubing and the wall of the wellbore by sealing off the space between them.

X

R_Bit_Wear

The classification of the amount of wear on the drill bit

X
